There’s an Einstein quote that goes something like, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it”. I think the explainers in most situations want to impart too much context to the reader, but in most cases, the reader can probably do with a lot less. Your example of the airplane handle is perfect.

To me, this speaks to such a need for empathy in design and writing. Like anything in business, really getting into the headspace of a client or customer can give you an entirely different perspective on what should be said or how something should look. Marketers writing for marketers or designers designing for designers lead us down some really unproductive paths.
