If you’ve never read it, I highly recommend Matthew Crawford’s “The World Beyond Your Head”. He recognizes that a world full of ad covered surfaces and addictive media is really being driven by attention merchants. With so much available to consume every moment of every day, most of us are going for long periods of time without having an idea that wasn’t put there by someone else.

That whole process makes it really easy to get caught up in your own brain and forget that you’re a being in a larger physical world. When you take charge of your attention, you can start interacting with that wider world in more meaningful ways.

Media literacy and self-examination are going to be big educational opportunities in the next few decades.
